Final Buck Fire Update Tuesday June 24, 2025

Operations: Today, they are focused on monitoring and patrolling for any remaining heat in the area with the remaining resources. The roads group is continuing to repair and improve access routes that were heavily utilized during fire operations. Fire managers are also in the process of implementing a comprehensive suppression repair plan to address all impacted areas.

As of today, the Albuquerque Zone Type 3 incident management team will start a transitioning process to turn the fire back to the local forest organizations on Wednesday morning.

A message from the Incident Commander, Lino Baca: " We’re incredibly grateful for the hard work and dedication of all firefighters and support personnel on this incident. Their efforts successfully held the fire with no additional spread. Thank you for your continued support as we work toward full containment."

Weather: Today there will be widespread rain with 60-70% probabilities of rain with accumulations of around half an inch over the 24-hour period. There is also a 60-70% probability of widespread thunderstorms beginning after noon and continuing through 11pm. High will be 72-76F with minimum RHs 29-34% and south winds 5-9 mph gusting to 16 mph

Location: Northwest of Winston, Southwest of Magdalena and Datil, and Southeast of Aragon.

Safety: The health and safety of firefighters and the public are always the top priority. Members of the public should avoid the Buck Fire area.

Closures: The Continental Divide Trail (CDT) has issued a soft closure to discourage any CDT hikers from hiking through the fire area due to public safety and accountability.

Smoke: Minimal smoke may be visible from Highway 12 southeast of the community of Aragon, NM and southwest of Highway 60.
