AuthenticSelvesSeptember 15, at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street – "Authentic Selves: Celebrating Trans and Nonbinary People and Their Families"

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City is celebrating trans and nonbinary people by discussing a recent acclaimed book about their experiences in its program at 10:00 am on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 3845 N. Swan St.

The book "Authentic Selves" is a sweeping celebration of the life stories of 35 trans and nonbinary people, as well as their partners, parents, children, siblings, and chosen family members, providing a glimpse into their real lives, challenges, and triumphs.

One of the people portrayed in Authentic Selves is Robert Williams, a young nonbinary person who grew up in Mississippi and South Carolina and was fortunate to enjoy the love and support of their parents and their liberal Episcopal church. Robert is also related to a UUFSC member, who recently interviewed Robert and their parents for this program. We will be watching the video of that interview and reading a short passage from the foreword to the book in celebration of trans and nonbinary people and in anticipation of the Silver City Pride Festival on September 21st.

Children are welcome to participate on any Sunday, but they will get the most out of the program if they attend second and fourth Sundays somewhat regularly. Family adults may stay for the children's program or attend the adult program. Children are encouraged to bring a small item that represents someone or something they are grateful for that week.

There are speakers on the patio if you wish to enjoy the service outside.

UUFSC Safety Protocol as pursuant to our most recent UUA Guidelines:

Masks are now optional, but their use is encouraged. We will continue to serve refreshments on the patio and in the building. Visitors are always welcome.
