Diane LeBlanc will speak on behalf of the Silver City Jacob Bennett Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) at the local Rotary meeting on September 10, 2024. She will present a program on DAR, the national America250 initiative, and upcoming local DAR America 250! projects.
DAR was founded in 1890 and incorporated in 1896 by an Act of Congress. It is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children.
The U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission was established by Congress in 2016 to plan and orchestrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence of the United States. The nonpartisan Commission is working with America250.org to engage Americans across the country in designing the largest and most inclusive anniversary observance in our nation's history. This multi-year effort, from now through July 4, 2026, is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation's past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond (https://america250.org).
DAR is privileged to serve on the Semiquincentennial Commission, and has established its America 250! Committee. Each year leading up to this historic milestone, the DAR Jacob Bennett Chapter in Silver City is celebrating with educational programs on the American Revolution, historical preservation, volunteer service, and observances to foster community involvement and celebration of America's 250th birthday on July 4, 2026.
Ms. LeBlanc is retired from diverse career in non-profit management, fundraising, lobbying, marketing, and service in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
The Rotary Club meets every Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. for lunch in the WNMU Student Memorial Building, Second Floor, Sunset Room. There is a brief "meet and greet", a short business meeting and then the speaker has the floor. The club welcomes members of the public to the meetings. Since its founding in 1923, the Silver City Rotary Club has provided support and service to numerous non-profit organizations and civic causes in Silver City and Grant County as well as supporting and participating in humanitarian projects sponsored by Rotary International.
