Dr. Perry is an ecologist teaching at Furman University in Greenville South Carolina. He has introduced students to the wilderness of New Mexico, the South African bush, the tropical forests of Costa Rica, and the natural environments of South Carolina. He is President of Natural Curiosity. Its mission is to advance conservation through research, experiential education, and immersive outdoor experiences by engaging people with nature and giving them the knowledge, skills, and confidence to do conservation work in the wild.
Dr. Perry will discuss the Hermosa Field Station, located 25 miles west of T or C. In 2023, with the help of many generous supporters, Natural Curiosity purchased the ghost town of Hermosa and founded the Hermosa Field Station. The purchase included the 54-acre historic town site of Hermosa, the nearby Hermosa Cemetery, and the 40-acre Kelsey Property - a historic homestead located about 10 mi south of Hermosa along Animas Creek and bordered on three sides by the Aldo Leopold Wilderness.
