Silver City, NM, February 24, 2025---A representative of El Refugio, the local domestic violence shelter, will be the speaker at the March 4th meeting of PFLAG Silver City, 6:00 PM, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3845 N. Swan. Light refreshments will be served, and the public is invited. After the presentation there will be time for support and sharing.
Joclynn Palmer serves as a Victim Advocate at El Refugio. The organization's mission statement reads, "El Refugio empowers all persons affected by domestic and sexual violence by providing advocacy, education, and services in a safe and supportive environment." El Refugio serves both adults and children who are victims of domestic violence. According to the website, Victim Advocates "... assist with filing Domestic Violence Protection Orders, [provide] support at court hearings, and advocate for client needs. We offer assistance with safety planning, crisis intervention, victims' rights education, and we assist clients with proper referrals and resources."
