Silver City –It is that time of year again: a lot of summer fun! The Silver City Public Library is happy to announce its annual Summer Reading Program. Children, teens, and adults can register to get a log, bingo, or game board and track their participation at their own pace. Earn prizes and enter the end-of-summer prize drawings by reading and coming to events! Registration opens May 6.

The Summer Reading Program is made possible by the Friends of the Library.

We have a lot of activities for kids and adults. Mondays the NMSU Extension office will lead lessons and crafts. Every other Monday is a family movie. Tuesdays we have a craft great for kids. We will be doing stuff like making things such as journals and using glow in the dark paint. Saturdays, we will be hosting events we hold year around, like Robots, and squishy circuits. All events are free, and no registration is required.

We have a bunch of performers and special presenters this summer. Thursdays, we have local presents. June 6, we have Smokey the Bear coming by to talk about campfire safety. We will have a ranger in the Smokey the Bear costume and a ranger explaining things. Next on June 13, we have a day in the life of a police officer with Officer Howdy and other members of the Silver City Police Department. The officers will be explaining what they do in a typical day. We will have a police officer, a detective and the outreach specialist, Officer Howdy. Finally, we have the Southwest Women's Fiber Arts Collective putting on two workshops. The first is painting bandanas on June 20. The second is creating puppets on June 27. We also have two dates to play video games with fire fighters. Come talk to and play with these amazing people on Saturday, June 15 and Wednesday, June 26.

Fridays, we have performers. Starting with the the Mittelstadts on June 7 at 2pm. They will be doing songs and dances. June 14 at 4pm is Pint Size Polka. Come sing and dance so more. This performer has been all over making polka music fun for kids.  Tall Paul Magic will be doing a magic show on June 21 at 4pm. Come see all sorts of neat tricks and some real magic. On Tuesday, June 25, Andy Mason will be here at 10:30 am. He is a musician that has his music on iTunes and Spotify. He will be doing fun songs for the kids to sing along to.  Finally, join Kate Rose in some Wild Irish Dance on June 28 at 2pm. She will be showing people how to do some traditional dances and also playing some great Irish music. There will be more in July! Sign up for summer reading for a full calendar.

Other ongoing, weekly events offered by the Library include:
