September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and the Silver City Public Library will celebrate by offering one week of free library card replacements on Monday, September 16 through Saturday, September 21, 2024, during normal library operating hours. Each person's first library card is always free, but the library normally charges $5.00 to replace lost cards. "We offer free library card replacement days once or twice every year. It is a great opportunity for those who have lost their cards to regain access to library resources and services," explained Lillian Galloway, library assistant director

Besides the books, audiobooks, DVDs, and internet hotspots available to borrow with a library card, members can use their cards to access a wide array of digital services from the comfort of home, including

downloadable e-books and audiobooks in the Libby app
• movies, TV, music, and more in Hoopla
• independent films from Kanopy
• Flipster digital magazines including The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Wired, and more
• Rocket Languages language learning tools

Community members can use a special link on the library website to access The New York Times online, with no paywall, thanks to the New Mexico State Library. Ancestry and GrantStation research databases are available to use in the library building.
