The Silver City Friends of the Library (FOL) is holding its May Book Sale on Saturday, May 11, at the FOL Bookstore, 1510 Market Street, from 10:00am-2:00pm.
Hardback and trade paperback books are priced at $1.00 each and paperbacks at $0.50 each. In some cases, books may be priced higher. Weather permitting, clearance item sales take place in the FOL parking lot where visitors can purchase a bag of books (special bags are provided in the parking lot) at $2.00 per bag. There is no limit on the number of bags a visitor can buy.Â
"Summer is on the way and it's a good time to build up your home summer reading library with books from the FOL Bookstore and Parking Lot sale," said Barbara Guber, FOL Bookstore manager. "Our next sale will be the second Saturday of September, so come this weekend and find literary gems to entertain you over the next four months. Our book sales are the sole source of revenue for the FOL and all of it is donated to the Silver City Library to enhance their programs and offerings. These funds allow the Library to provide the popular Summer Reading Programs and the Concert Series, as well as other functions and projects."
"Electronic media items now have their own room," a Bookstore crew member explained. "It contains music and audio books on CDs and complete sets of many different Great Courses.
Inside the Bookstore, book sale visitors will find shelves filled with great collections of fiction arranged by author and non-fiction arranged by category."
One of the non-fiction rooms is now dedicated to the Southwest and contains an entire section of Native American books.
The Fiction, Historical Fiction, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Young Adult, Horror, Mystery, Thriller, Classics, Literature collections have all been refreshed with new selections but remain in their usual locations within the bookstore.
"Children's books will be sold in the parking lot," Guber noted. "Visitors can select as many as they want and purchase them for $2.00/bag."
The Friends of the Silver City Library invite the public to come and spend a laid-back morning and early afternoon, browsing and finding treasures among its vast collection of books and other media, all donated through the generosity of Grant County residents.
The Friends of the Library accepts donations of books from the public and uses these to raise funds to support the Silver City Library's programs and activities. Donations can be placed in the Friends of the Library donation bins outside the Silver City Library main door. These are located to the right of the Library's bin for returning Library books.
