Johannes Lencer is the Chief Operating Officer for the National Center for Frontier communities, which operates the Frontier Food Hub (FFH). FFH is a model program intervention designed to address food security and economic development challenges for producers and residents in remote and frontier communities in Southwest New Mexico.
Lencer will explain how these organizations offer marketing and distribution services to local food producers of all scales from backyard to full-time farmers, FFH has generated approximately $1.1 million dollars in sales in the last 5 years, 75-80% of which have gone directly to our producers.
"However, FFH's mission is not just to serve farmers but also residents by making local, fresh food more accessible through partnerships with many organizations and businesses across New Mexico, delivering local food to schools, senior centers, coops and food pantries between Lordsburg and Santa Fe and to Farmington," Lencer said.
Additionally, FFH has been organizing food boxes for Seniors, for residents affected by floods and fires, through FreshRx, CSAs, and sending out a Mobile Farmers Market to communities around Southwest New Mexico. Johannes will be sharing the stories behind these programs and events, and what FFH has learned and will be working on next, including the recently launched SWNM Food System Alliance and the Community Food Project in the Mining District.
Children are welcome to participate on any Sunday, but they will get the most out of the program if they attend second and fourth Sundays somewhat regularly. Family adults may stay for the children's program or attend the adult program. Children are encouraged to bring a small item that represents someone or something they are grateful for that week.
