Dr. Dan Otero, HMS Chief Executive Officer, and Senator Siah Correa-Hemphill partner to secure funding to continue the HMS Compassion for Seniors Program.

Dr. Dan Otero, Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) Chief Executive Officer, and Senator Siah Correa-Hemphill partnered at the 2024 Legislative session to secure funding to continue the HMS Compassion for Seniors Program. This program aims to provide basic needs support to low-income seniors 60 years of age or older in urgent need of household repairs, rent, mortgage, utilities, and other miscellaneous expenses that will be considered upon the capacity of funds. The program extends aid of up to $1,000 per household annually, contingent upon eligibility criteria and fund availability.

The purpose of this program is to support our community of seniors living on limited incomes and whose lives would be improved with some assistance. Eligible seniors living in a single-person household must have less than $30,120 in annual income, and those living in a two-person household must have less than $40,880 in annual income and reside in Hidalgo or Grant County. Family Support Services Community Health Workers process the applications and submit them for a committee review and approval of qualified individuals.

HMS expresses sincere gratitude to Senator Correa-Hemphill for her dedication and support, as she has allocated $50,000 towards the Compassion for Seniors Program. Additionally, HMS is grateful to have received a generous donation of $10,972.33 from the Freeport CIF funds provided by Freeport McMoRan. These contributions are instrumental in enabling the program to continue its mission of aiding seniors in need.

Due to these generous contributions, HMS will begin accepting applications on June 3, 2024. Please contact a Community Health Worker at 575-597-2496 to schedule an appointment to complete the application.
