Gila Mimbres/Community Radio – KURU 89.1 FM announced an open house, to be held 10-4 on Saturday, December 21st. Visitors are invited to the station at the corner of 6th and North Bullard Streets in Silver City to enjoy light refreshments and meet KURU volunteers and members of the Board of Directors. During the open house, and for the whole month of December, all donations made to GMCR will be matched dollar for dollar by challenge grants from generous listeners until all challenges are met. December donations and challenges will both be matched by a grant from the New Mexico Local News Fund until the grant's $7,500 maximum is reached.
"Thanks to The New Mexico Local News Fund and members of our own community, there's never been a better time to support the station," said Jamie Newton, a member of the Board of Directors. "Each donation will help us meet the matches that have been offered, and every donation of $25 or more, or a monthly subscription of $5 or more, makes the donor eligible for a T-shirt or tote bag with the distinctive GMCR/KURU logo. We encourage listeners who have never donated to give to the station now and join our family of members. We also ask current members to consider a special donation, and to invite their friends to enjoy our programs and donate to keep the station bringing our unique blend of musical entertainment, culture, news, and commentary flowing out to Grant County and beyond."
