Serving out of Wilderness Ranger District in Mimbres, New Mexico

SILVER CITY, NM, Dec. 19, 2024 – The Gila National Forest recently welcomed a newly minted federal law enforcement officer, Silver City's own Nick Delgado, to its ranks. Delgado fills the void of a long-vacant law enforcement position on the forest, delivering increased capacity for emergency response, public safety, and natural resource protection services.

"I couldn't be more thrilled to have another seasoned law enforcement officer among our ranks," said Gila National Forest Supervisor Camille Howes. "Being from the Silver City area, Nick brings a wealth of knowledge of the forest and its communities."

Delgado hails from Silver City, New Mexico, where he previously served as a Seargent in the Silver City police department. He completed his federal law enforcement training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in 2024 and completed his field training just last week. Now, LEO Delgado is fully certified and working out of the Wilderness Ranger District in Mimbres, New Mexico, where he will increase law enforcement field presence across the forest.

"I'm proud to be a part of the Gila National Forest; to do my part to help care for the land and provide service to our communities and visitors," said Delgado. "I look forward to interacting with visitors, sharing my knowledge of the forest, and protecting our shared natural resources."

Congratulations, Nick, and welcome to the Gila! For more information contact Maribeth Pecotte at 575-388-8211 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
