GIVE GRANDLY 2024
ONLINE GIVING APRIL 20TH THRU MAY 20TH - IN PERSON GIVING AT FORT BAYARD SATURDAY MAY 4THÂ
BETWEEN 10 AM AND 2 PM
Good Evening Friends and Members of FBHPS,
Members of the Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society believe our mission of collecting, preserving and interpreting Historic Fort Bayard's story helps the local residents understand the importance of the fort's history from its military existence to becoming the largest TB facility in the country to a hospital/treatment center. We contribute to cross-cultural understanding among our diverse population, especially by growing our educational and exhibit programs. Museum improvements are essential to creating an environment where learning experiences can flourish. We aim to start with educating our young.
We charge no admission fee and rely primarily on donations. The Commanding Doctor's home, where the museum is located, has no electricity, water or heat. Our organization is 100% volunteer operated. FBHPS is working with the Village of Santa Clara, who has a lease with the State of New Mexico for some of the property, and we anticipate infrastructure improvements in the near future. The FBHPS can then install a security system, make needed interior repairs, obtain period light fixtures, establish more workable exhibits and protect them with ultraviolet window coverings.
Among other projects, and with prior contributions from Give Grandly, donations and grants, FBHPS has contributed to the building of an ADA compliant ramp on the back entrance (in concert with the Village & State,) replaced signage on the grounds and published a self-guided walking tour brochure. Â
FBHPS continues to provide tours on the weekend even during the cold winter months. The FBHPS attendance logs indicate that in addition to local residents, we attract visitors from Texas, Arizona, Colorado, California and numerous other states as well as from several foreign countries. Fort Bayard appeals to tourists who enjoy our community and then add to its economy. Â
We hope you can come visit us at the Fort Bayard Museum on Saturday May 4th between 10 AM and 2 PM to support us through Give Grandly, or you may donate online anytime between April 20th and May 20th by logging on to Givegrandly.org and selecting Fort Bayard listed among many other charitable organizations. Â
You may also visit us at the Fort Bayard Museum any Saturday between 10 AM and 2 PM and additional openings to include Sundays from May through September from 10 AM to 2 PM. Special tours can also be arranged by calling 575-388-4862 or 575-388-4477.  Be sure to visit our website at historicfortbayard.org for times and dates of upcoming events.
