Hop Kleihauer, crowned and with the beads of Mardi Gras, surveys the pancake griddle at the Church of the Good Shepherd. He rules on Tuesday, 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Church of the Good Shepherd and its Brotherhood of St. Andrew chapter offer Silver City the traditional dinner "to use up the oil and eggs" before the beginning of Lent.
"This supper, associated with the Mardi Gras, goes back to the Middle Ages as Christians prepared for the period of fasting, self-reflection and devotion before Easter," says Deacon Tom Bates.
"It's more than pancakes," offers the pancake mogul, Hop Kleihauer. Bacon, sausage, eggs, coffee and orange juice are also on the menu.
The Brotherhood uses the donations for the meal to fund its service projects.
