JessicaSalaizSilver City, NM, August 27, 2024---Jessica Salaiz, the new program specialist for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS), will be the guest speaker at the PFLAG Silver City monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3rd, 6:00 PM, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3845 N. Swan. The public is invited, and light refreshments will be served.

Salaiz serves as program specialist for BBBS in Grant, Luna and Hidalgo counties. She was born and raised in Silver City and graduated from New Mexico State University in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Family and Child Science. Once she graduated, she knew she wanted to return to Silver City and do something that was personally fulfilling. After interviewing with BBBS, she learned that the Program Director was Diana Lozano, her supervisor while she was interning in college and a mentor. "I knew Big Brothers Big Sisters was exactly what I was looking for. I feel blessed having the opportunity to not only work with an amazing team but to work with our awesome community in making a difference," Salaiz said.

Since 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is incredible potential. As the nation's largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers ("Bigs") and children ("Littles"), ages 5 through young adulthood in communities across the country. BBBS develops positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.

PFLAG is the nation's largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. For more information, call 575-590-8797 or go to pflagsilver.org.
