Silver City, NM, September 26, 2024—A representative from the League of Women Voters will speak at the monthly support meeting of PFLAG Silver City on Tuesday, October 1st, 6:00 PM, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3845 N. Swan. The public is invited, and light refreshments will be served.

According to the Williams Institute of the UCLA School of Law, 5.5% of US adults (13.9 million people), identify as LGBTQ. "That's a considerable bloc of voters," says PFLAG Silver City spokesperson Damie Nelson. "And when you include the family and friends of those LGBTQ Americans, those numbers could sway the outcome of our local, state and national races. In addition, there are all the parents with LGBTQ children. Those kids can't vote yet, but their parents can."

"PFLAG families will be leading with love right to the polls this fall, because regardless of where you live, the color of your skin, or who you love, the stakes of this election have never been higher," said Brian K. Bond, Chief Executive Officer of PFLAG National. The PFLAG National campaign "Love Votes" has begun, and those interested in learning more can go to https://pflag.org/press/lovevotes/

Discussion at the local meeting will focus on the importance of exercising the right to vote, along with how and when to register and vote.

PFLAG is the nation's largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. For more information, call 575-590-8797 or go to pflagsilver.org.
