Light Art Space is pleased to feature a special sale of Mata Ortiz Potter. Join us for the  First Friday Gallery walk on May 3rd from 5 - 7 pm for this

fundraiser to benefit our local non-profit The Border Justice Project.  Also part of Give Grandly,

The Border Justice Project (BJP) provides shelter, food, clothing, toys, medicine, and care for thousands of migrants in Deming, NM, and Palomas (Chih.), Mexico.

This volunteer group accepts donations and monetary support from individuals and is grateful for the donation of this beautiful pottery.

Mata Ortiz pottery is a derivation of the Mogollon pottery found in and around the archeological site of Casas Grandes (Paquimé) in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It is named after the modern town of Mata Ortiz, which is near the archeological site. The style was developed by Juan Quezada who learned on his own to recreate the ancient pottery and then went on to update it. By the mid 1970s, Quezada was selling his pottery and teaching family and friends to make it.

Pottery will be available for purchase beginning May 2nd, continuing through June 2nd, 2024.

This is a great opportunity to purchase unique pieces at excellent prices while supporting an important local non-profit. The sales will go through June 2nd, 2024.

100% of any purchase of Mata Ortiz pottery will go to the Border Justice Project, as well as be matched by a generous BJP supporter.

Light Art Space is located at 209 West Broadway. Hours: Thursday - Saturday 11 am - 5 pm, Sunday 10am - 2. pm, and by appointment.Â
