Marine Corps League Gaffney-Oglesby Detachment 1328 (MCL) and American Legion Riders Chapter 13 (ALR), both of Silver City raffled off a Rokon Ranger motorcycle with a tow-behind trailer. Clint Welburn from Cliff, NM, won the raffle that was held on Veterans Day, November 11, 2024. The raffle drawing was conducted following Veterans Day ceremonies at Allingham-Golding American Legion Post 18 in Silver City. MCL Junior Vice Commandant and ALR Director Carl Eliason stated the raffle raised $17,250 which was divided equally between the two organizations. Proceeds are used to support Operation Wounded Warrior, New Mexico Fisher House and other Veteran affiliated and support programs locally and throughout the state.
The motorcycle and trailer were donated to MCL and ALR by the estate of retired United States Marine Corps Gunnery Seargent Garry Gibson (Gunny). Gunny passed shortly after he purchased the Ranger and never had the opportunity to even put oil in the engine, so it was a brand-new machine.
Director Eliason said that many members of both organizations contributed to the success of the raffle's fundraising, but there were two standouts that deserve special recognition. MCL Sgt-at-Arms and ALR Historian, Roger Wright was the stalwart present for almost every raffle event and probably raised the most by any individual overall. MCL member, Diane LaBlanc, was another notable individual with incredible one-days totals at several events.
The Marine Corps League and American Legion Riders want to thank everyone in the communities of Grant County and surrounding areas for their continued support of our Veterans, with special thanks to Ace Hardware and Tractor Supply Company in Silver City for hosting raffle events. Best wishes to Clint Welburn and hopes that he enjoys many exciting miles on the trails and in the fields with his Rokon and trailer!
