Silver City, NM, May 28, 2024—Levi Phillips and Asher Gibson, the newest board members for PFLAG Silver City, will be the guest speakers at the regular meeting on Tuesday, June 4th, 6:00 PM, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3845 N. Swan.  The public is invited, and light refreshments will be served.

Both Phillips and Gibson are students at Western New Mexico University, and they joined the PFLAG Silver City board of directors this spring.

Levi Phillips is from Ruidoso, NM and is majoring in Social Work with a minor in Psychology.  They were the president of their Gay-Straight Alliance Club in high school and are an active member of the Queers and Allies Club at WNMU.  "I wanted to join the PFLAG Silver City board to be more involved in the community where I attend college. Being part of the LGBTQ+ community is a huge part of who I am and who I want to advocate and work for when I get my degree. Being on a board brings experience and knowledge that I can use in the future, and I am so excited to be a part of PFLAG and being able to help with future events," Phillips said.

Asher Gibson hails from Dallas, TX, and is majoring in Zoology.  They were student body president in high school and active in the school's theater club.  Gibson is currently active in the Queers and Allies Club at WNMU.  Gibson says, "I always enjoyed planning events for my community, and PFLAG offered an opportunity to do that in a place I had recently moved to. I moved to Silver City for college and knew nobody here, but now I've truly found my place within the Queer community and want to help provide that sense of home to others."

PFLAG  is the nation's largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. For more information, call 575-590-8797 or go to pflagsilver.org or pflag.org.
