Fire crews plan to ignite Pine Cienega slash piles off of Brushy Mountain Road (Grant County Road 5-12), approximately 23 miles southwest of Glenwood, New Mexico beginning Monday, January 8, if appropriate weather and fuels conditions allow.

The project includes about 300 acres of slash piles that are the result of thinning hazardous fuels in February 2023. Burning the slash piles will further reduce hazardous fuels in the vicinity of the Pine Cienega Ranch Community, reducing wildfire risk to dozens of homes and properties in the area.

Smoke may impact residents of the Brushy Mountain Road area and may be visible along US Highway 180, and may settle into valley areas, especially during overnight and early morning hours. Signs will be posted in the area to promote public awareness.
