On Tuesday July 15 Becky Smith of Smith Real Estate will discuss Silver City Real Estate - past, present, & future - a retrospective of the past 50 years, and an educated guess at the next 50.

Becky Smith has spent most of her life from the age of 6 in the Silver City real estate market. Her mother, Viola Smith, went into real estate with local Realtor Fern Shell when Becky went to the first grade. They co-owned Smith & Shell Real Estate until Mrs. Shell's retirement in 1964, when the business became Smith Real Estate. Becky worked in the office as a teenager, and got her first real estate license in 1972, taking over the business in 1984 when her mother retired.  Smith Real Estate has now been in continuous operation in Silver City for 61 years. Family owned and franchise free since 1964, Becky is now joined by her son, Trevor Thayer, and her granddaughter, Sydney Thayer, in running the company.

Becky is a past president of the Silver City Association of Realtors, the Silver City Museum Board, the Silver City Main Street Project, and Silver City's Planning & Zoning Commission. She is the current chairman of Silver City's Historic Design Review Committee.

The Rotary Club meets every Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. for lunch in the Silver Bowling Center. There is a brief "meet and greet", a short business meeting and then the speaker has the floor. The club welcomes members of the public to the meetings. Lunch is available in the grill.
