Dear Community Members,

Starting November 1st, federal funding cuts to the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) will take effect impacting families across the United States. New Mexico has the highest number of participants in the SNAP program than any other state in the country. According to Road Runner Food Bank, as of August 2025 there are 3,929 households in Grant County alone that receive an estimated average of $325/month of SNAP benefits to put food on the table.

We understand that these federal cuts may cause stress and uncertainty, but you are not alone. The Commons is here to help Grant County residents and ensure that our community has access to the food they need.

Here's How We Can Help:

Food Pantries: Access FREE food at one of our mobile pantries across the county or at the Choose Your Own Pantry in Silver City. To find out more about our pantry schedule and locations click here: https://thecommonsgrantcounty.org/calendar-month/

Emergency Food and Snack Bags: If you have already picked up your monthly food distribution, but need additional support, you can pick up an emergency bag with supplemental food to bridge the gap until the next distribution. We also have snack bags available for unhoused individuals who don't have access to means of cooking or refrigeration.

Community Dinners: We host a free community dinner once a month. Anyone is welcome to join for a home-style cooked meal! Our next one will be this Friday, October 31st from 5:00-7:00 PM.

How to Sign Up for Food Assistance:

To register, simply visit a pantry location during open hours or come by The Commons in Silver City. You'll fill out a short, one-page self-reported form and receive a pantry card for future check-ins. You are NOT required to bring any documentation with you (i.e. utility bill, proof of income/residency, ID, etc.).
