Martha Cooper will talk about The Nature Conservancy's New Mexico freshwater conservation priorities and our collaboration with partners to restore or mimic natural processes on rivers and in watersheds in New Mexico. She will share their work along the Gila and Mimbres Rivers in Southwest New Mexico, describe our statewide freshwater strategies, highlight the Jicarilla Apache Nation Water Sharing Agreement in the San Juan Basin, and close with an update about the Rio Grande Water Fund, a water-source protection program in Northern New Mexico.
Martha Schumann Cooper, provides strategic direction for The Nature Conservancy's New Mexico's freshwater conservation priorities, works closely with the Conservancy's Colorado River Program, and collaborates with partners to restore or mimic natural processes on rivers and in watersheds in New Mexico.
Cooper began working for TNC in 2006, focused on the Gila and Mimbres Rivers. Prior to working with The Nature Conservancy, she worked for six years in the Southwest on forest and watershed restoration, research and education at the Forest Stewards Guild and Rio Puerco Management Committee.
Martha Cooper received her M.S. in Forest Ecosystem Science from the University of Maine in 1999 and a BA in Biology from Amherst College in 1995.
Children are welcome to participate on any Sunday, but they will get the most out of the program if they attend second and fourth Sundays somewhat regularly. Family adults may stay for the children's program or attend the adult program. Children are encouraged to bring a small item that represents someone or something they are grateful for that week.
