On Saturday, August 10th SWAG Books and More will be hosting, "The Passing of the Laurel: A Poetry Reading," from 3 to 4:30 PM. This event focuses on the passing of the laurel/baton between the most recent poet laureate of Silver City/Grant County, Allison Waterman, and the new poet laureate of Silver City/Grant County, Heather Frankland.
The Poet Laureate Program began in 2011. Created by the Southwest Word Fiesta and endorsed by the Mayor and Town Council of Silver City, it is the only poet laureate program in Southern New Mexico. The poet laureate serves as an advocate for poetry, working with the community in unique ways and encouraging the creative spirit of our unique region. Frankland is the sixth poet laureate.
Come to enjoy poetry and to celebrate the poet laureate program on August 10th at SWAG Books and More, 409 N Bullard Street, from 3 to 4:30 PM. There will be light refreshments
