June 1 at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street – "Transgender Issues"
Susan Golightly will talk about the fears and struggles transgender people are facing under the current administration. More than 850 bills have been introduced across the country's cities, counties, states, and federal legislatures in the last year to curtail, impact and to attempt to erase transgender people. Many more legislative bills are expected as our current administration wages a war of annihilation of transgender people.
"I will cover transgender topics such as where do transgender people come from, how long have they existed, transgender care for children and adults, transgender people in sports i.e., is there an advantage, how many are we talking about, etc." Golightly said.
"There will be time for questions. I like to say, "there are no dumb questions." She added.
Susan Golightly holds a Master's in Counseling and Gender Studies from WNMU. She has facilitated numerous transgender support groups in Boston, Seattle, San Luis Obispo, and Silver City.
Golightly has spent a lifetime struggling with gender and gender expression. Finally giving up the battle, she came out as a trans woman around twenty years ago and has never been happier. She has also spent the last twenty years trying to figure out her gender.
Childcare is available every Sunday. Zoey Cronin will lead a formal children's program on second and fourth Sundays.
Children are welcome to participate on any Sunday, but they will get the most out of the program if they attend second and fourth Sundays somewhat regularly. Family adults may stay for the children's program or attend the adult program. Children are encouraged to bring a small item that represents someone or something they are grateful for that week.
There are speakers on the patio if you wish to listen to the service outside.
