August 3, at 11:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street – "Bringing the Mountain Home"
Gale Green said, "When I first began to attend this gathering place, this Fellowship, I was intrigued by the simple mural of a mountain landscape we faced on the wall facing us every Sunday morning. It took me several months to become aware that 'Hey! I think that's Bear Mountain!' Why is that here? What does that mean for me?"
Green will reflect upon a book titled "Bringing the Mountain Home," by SueEllen Campbell. Campbell talks about wilderness as perhaps a place we should go to, to get lost, lose our familiar ways, to find ourselves a creature among other creatures.
"What causes our senses to open to wonder? What has happened to wonder in our lives? My life? Your life? Have our faces become so implanted in our cell phones that we miss the wonder of the world around us? Has our wonder narrowed to the worlds of the entertainment gods and music monarchs?" she asked.
"How long has it been since you were literally 'stopped in your shoes' as a dear friend of mine used to say?" Green added. "SueEllen Campbell says it is a deeply loved landscape which holds us fast to the planet."
Green will lead the Fellowship in looking together at ways to open their lives to wonder, to ways of bringing our mountains home with us and perhaps to giving that wonder away to others. Go find something, some wonder on your mounntain today, and bring some home!
After graduating from high school Gale Green attended and graduated from Seminary. Years later she finished her Bachelor's Degree program in Applied Psychology, where she earned outstanding student honors, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a master's degree in Guidance and Counseling. After that she continued her education and was ordained as a Chaplain. Green continued her focus on the interpersonal relationship needs of her patients, their families, and their friends.
Gale Green moved to Silver City in December 2005 in time to meet new friends and get invited to a tamale making Christmas gathering in her first year on New Mexico soil. She bought a home shortly after and through the good luck of meeting other new friends she was included as charter member of the High Desert Organic Gardeners.
In 2006 Green revamped the GRMC Hospice Chaplaincy program under a new director and served in that capacity for about three and a half years.
After her retirement, she assisted Tyler Connoley in his Church leadership duties, sometimes filling in as a leader occasionally in his absence. Eventually, she trained and oriented him to take over her position as Chaplain of GRMC Hospice.
Children are welcome to participate on any Sunday, but they will get the most out of the program if they attend second and fourth Sundays somewhat regularly. Family adults may stay for the children's program or attend the adult program. Children are encouraged to bring a small item that represents someone or something they are grateful for that week.
UUFSC Safety Protocol as pursuant to our most recent UUA Guidelines:
