November 10, at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street – "In These Hard Times, Learn How to Find Hope in Unitarian History"
As the country faces the task of trying to come together after this year's election, Rev. Claudia Elferdink will talk about lessons from Unitarian Universalist history that may prove helpful.
"With a difficult election, I will share my personal story of finding strength to persevere. Who are the Unitarians? Where do they come from? Unitarian Universalists stand on the shoulders of courageous ancestors. How does it matter, today, that in 1568 Transylvanian Unitarians stood up for religious freedom in the face of the oppressive and corrupt Roman Church?" she said.
Susan and Bert Mittlestadt and special guest Ken Keppeler will provide music for the service.
Rev. Claudia Elferdink is a UU Minister who served congregations in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Since her retirement in 2013, she has lived in Silver City with her husband John Egnal, near their two adult children, Martha and Stu, and five grandchildren. She serves as the Coordinator of the Reckoning International U/U Histories Project.
Childcare is available every Sunday. Zoey Cronin will lead a formal children's program on second and fourth Sundays. This Sunday will be a Children's RE program.
Children are welcome to participate on any Sunday, but they will get the most out of the program if they attend second and fourth Sundays somewhat regularly. Family adults may stay for the children's program or attend the adult program. Children are encouraged to bring a small item that represents someone or something they are grateful for that week.
UUFSC Safety Protocol as pursuant to our most recent UUA Guidelines:
