The Housing and Behavioral Health Task Force, formerly known as the Citizens' Taskforce on Homelessness in Grant County, has been meeting since June of 2023. Current members of the task force will talk about the work the group has been doing. The speakers will include Patricia Cano, the founder and current chair of the task force, who is a lifelong resident of Silver City and a retired professor from Western New Mexico University. The second speaker will be Laura Aubry, the owner of Mint Chip Creamery who has been a member of the task force since its inception.
The presentation will cover the group's mission and vision, as well as the work of four standing committees, the major accomplishments and plans for the future. The speakers will describe their work with Corre Caminos to establish two additional bus stops to serve the residents of SPIN and persons needing to avail themselves of food distributions at THE COMMONS.
Another important accomplishment that will be discussed is working with the Town of Silver City to open an Emergency Warming Center to prevent deaths from hypothermia. The Center is a place where the unhoused community and others can receive hot meals and drinks and can sleep in a safe environment.

Children are welcome to participate on any Sunday, but they will get the most out of the program if they attend second and fourth Sundays somewhat regularly.
