The Western Institute for Lifelong Learning (WILL), best known for offering an eclectic array of learning opportunities for the community, also hosts members with common interests, termed enthusiast groups. Most recently, an international travel group has been inaugurated, joining groups dedicated to writing and fishing.
The facilitator of the international travel group, Kitty Clemens, who moved to Silver City in 2020, brings twenty years of experience devoted to economic development and sustainable destination management experience, primarily serving rural towns and villages in New Mexico, Colorado and Montana via a consultancy she owns. Clemens, who enjoys exploring the world on foot and is a passionate supporter of public lands, is also a graduate of the Sustainable Tourism Destination Management program at the International Institute of Tourism Studies at George Washington University.
A recent survey of WILL members determined that the top four destinations were: Costa Rica Parks and Reserves, Mexico Monarch Butterfly Migration, Tanzania and Galapagos. Planning is underway for the first trip, to Mexico, departing on January 30, 2026.
Clemens says that the International program will promote comraderie among members, a value WILL strives to enhance. "Group travel fosters a sense of community by providing shared educational experiences, while also creating a sense of belonging and shared identity," she said.
