Free concert with Blacklight at the Library Friday
The Silver City Public Library is pleased to host a free concert on Friday, October 4, 3:00pm with local musical talent Blacklight. The concert is free thanks to the generous support of the Friends of the Library.
Blacklight is a husband-wife duo consisting of Billy and Sarah Dominguez. Billy is a drummer in local bands while Sarah is a classically trained mezzo-soprano specializing in dark ambient and synthesizer music.
Christina Castillo, director of SPIN, Supporting People In Need, will speak to the Silver City Rotary on October 8. This program works towards providing permanent supportive housing for the homeless who suffer from disabilities, a concept that has been shown to be successful in many other communities.
Supportive Housing is an evidence-based practice which uses Housing First, Trauma-informed design and services, and Harm Reduction models. In addition to the permanent supportive housing, and supportive services, SPIN also provides transitional housing and 24 hour a day emergency shelter and peer-run drop-in center.
A warm, dry fall is pushing fire danger to High – please be careful with campfires!
SILVER CITY, NM, Sept. 30, 2024 – It's been a hot, dry fall on the Gila National Forest and the seasonal outlook is predicting a dryer than normal fall and winter, increasing local fire danger to "High". Although precipitation from January through August met or exceeded the 30-year average at most sites, little rain graced the forest last month, and total moisture over the past three months has been lower than average. Temperatures have been considerably hotter than normal, and relative humidity has been lower than normal.
