SOCORRO, N.M. – The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Southern New Mexico Resource Advisory Council will host a meeting Jan. 23 and 24, from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. The first day of the meeting, Jan. 23, will include a field trip to the Box Recreation Area and the Datil Well Recreation Campground. The public is invited to attend both days, but the first day will include a field trip and members of the public must provide their own transportation and there will not be a virtual option available. Both in-person and virtual participation options will be available the second day.

Meeting agenda items include discussion and a vote on recreation fee increases for the Datil Well Recreation Area Campground, Rob Jaggers Campground, Valley of Fires Recreation Area, Haystack Mountain Off-Highway Vehicle Area and Mescalero Sands OHV Area; an oil-and-gas industry presentation; discussion of land access issues in southern New Mexico; and updates from the BLM Socorro Field Office and the Pecos and Las Cruces district offices.
Beginning at 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 24, there will be a 30-minute public comment period for interested members of the public who wish to address the Southern New Mexico RAC. Depending on the number of people wishing to comment, time for individual oral comments may be limited. RACs are critical in assisting BLM with public land management decisions and continuing to serve local communities. The 12-member Southern New Mexico RAC provides advice and recommendations to BLM on resource and land management issues within BLM Socorro Field Office and Pecos and Las Cruces district offices. RAC members are citizens who represent varied public land interests.
