SANTA FE – Today the Senate reconfirmed Chris Hefner as New Mexico's State Mine Inspector by a vote of 38-0. Senator Crystal Brantley (R-Elephant Butte), who sponsored Hefner's reappointment, highlighted his experience, dedication to miner safety, and the vital role he plays in New Mexico's mining communities.

Hefner, a resident of Socorro, was first appointed in 2020 and operates out of the New Mexico Bureau of Mine Safety at New Mexico Tech. His role includes conducting mine inspections, investigating mining accidents, and providing training programs that promote safety throughout the state's mining industry.
"Our mining sector is not only a staple of New Mexico's economy but also a source of pride for many of our communities," added Senator Brantley. "From copper in my district to potash in Eddy County and coal in other regions, Chris Hefner's leadership ensures these critical industries continue to thrive safely and sustainably."
The State Mine Inspector works closely with miners, companies, and regulatory bodies to maintain New Mexico's reputation for high safety standards in mining operations. Hefner's reconfirmation signals continued confidence in his leadership and dedication to safeguarding one of New Mexico's most economically significant industries.
"New Mexico miners are essential to our state's economy and energy future," said Senator Brantley. "Chris Hefner's work is about more than inspections—it's about protecting livelihoods, advancing our economy, and supporting economic development."
