Infrastructure investments pave the way for community and economic development
DEMING – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) District one currently has 128 active projects with 28 local entities in the amount of $96,815,364. In total, District one works with 24 local entities including 15 School Districts or Universities, the Alamo Navajo Chapter, El Paso Metropolitan Planning Organization (EPMPO), Mesilla Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization (MVMPO), South Central Council of Governments (SCCOG) and Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments (SWNMCOG).Â
"District One is dedicated to supporting our local entities in their efforts to invest in their communities. A well-functioning transportation system is essential for ensuring safety, promoting economic development, facilitating freight movement, enhancing community connectivity, and enabling efficient emergency response" stated Aaron Chavarria, District One Engineer. He continued, "The investment to local entities is a crucial resource that helps improve roadways, bridges, and airports. Without these funding opportunities, many of our local communities could not make the infrastructure improvements necessary to support development in New Mexico."
There are various funding sources that support these projects which include the Local Government Road Fund (LGRF), Transportation Project Fund (TPF), Capital Outlay, Municipal Arterial Project (MAP), NM State Road Fund (STATE).
Listed below is the local number of various roadways projects with total funding amounts. For a breakdown of specific projects in each agency, please reach out to Ami Evans at
