Evacuation Updates:
The City of Roswell is helping the Red Cross set up an emergency shelter that is available to people evacuating from Ruidoso because of wildfires there. The shelter is at the Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell gymnasium at 52B University Blvd. on the college campus. If that facility fills up, New Mexico Military Institute is preparing its Godfrey Athletic Center as a secondary shelter. The NMMI campus is at 101 W. College Blvd. and the Godfrey building is on the campus' Honor Avenue.
In addition, people with RVs and/or large animals can stay in their RVs and/or board their animals at the Eastern New Mexico State Fairgrounds at 2500 SE Main St.
Thank you to ENMU-R, NMMI and ENMSF for making these facilities available.
Meanwhile, thanks to Roswell hospitals, which are trying to accommodate as many patients as possible who are being moved out of the Ruidoso hospital.
