Santa Fe, NM — On November 7th the New Mexico Senate Republican Caucus unanimously elected new leadership with Senator Bill Sharer (R-Farmington) as the new Minority Leader, Senator Pat Woods (R-Broadview) as the new Minority Whip, and Senator David Gallegos (R-Eunice) as the new Caucus Chair.
"I am honored to be chosen for the position of Caucus Leader," said Senator Bill Sharer. "I intend to usher in an era of unity and conservative principles to the Senate Republican Caucus. The overtaxed and hard-working men and women of New Mexico will have a voice in this caucus. Now is not the time to sit idly by."
"Progressives have run our state into the ground, creating a climate that is hostile to business," Senate Republican Leader Sharer continued. "Moreover, our education system must be entirely reformed so that businesses will have skilled employees to hire. We will act to bring New Mexico back from the brink with conservative solutions and leadership."
"It is my privilege to bring change to the New Mexico Senate," said Senator Pat Woods. "The rights of all New Mexicans have been under attack. We must stand proudly for vital constitutional protections, including but not limited to our Second Amendment rights, lower taxes, and parental rights, as well as protecting the defenseless and holding criminals accountable again. We have much work to do."
"This is an exciting time for the Senate Caucus," said Senator Gallegos. "Traditional Hispanic voters in New Mexico are conservative, pro-family voters. We wish to govern in a way that welcomes these voters into our coalition. We also must get serious about the border crisis, which is the number one issue right now for all New Mexicans, and begin implementing reforms similar to those being done in Texas to stem the tide of crime and drugs infecting our state."
"We are optimistic about our political future," continued Senator Woods. "We are seeing a turn at the national level which will have implications in New Mexico."
