MESILLA - The New Mexico Department of Transportation District One office, in partnership with La Calerita Construction, LLC. (Contractor), has initiated a $22.7 million multi-modal project along University Avenue/New Mexico State Road 101, stretching from Avenida de Mesilla to South Main Street. The 1.419 miles project will involve the installation of new curb and gutter, sidewalks, a multi-use path, ADA ramps, storm drain and drainage systems, roadway signage, striping, lighting, and new railroad crossings.
Starting Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 7 a.m., NM 101 will be closed at the Laguna Lateral for the removal and reconstruction of the concrete box. A detour will redirect traffic from Avenida de Mesilla, W Union Ave, to McDowell Place. Drivers are advised to exercise caution in the construction area, adhere to posted speed limits, and allow additional travel time. Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the closure expected to last until early February.
