Winter Trout Stocking
If you have been waiting for the summer heat to die down so you can get out on the water…wait no more.
The Department starts its winter trout stocking program on Nov. 1, when the water temperatures cool. Check out page 16 of the New Mexico Fishing Rules and Information Booklet for more information on this cool program.
Here are some more useful tools to help plan your trip:

If you are a hunter education graduate under the age of 18 and you haven't purchased a hunting license before, the Department encourages you to apply for our youth-adult quail hunting camp as your first hunt. This is a perfect hunt for a beginner because you will be able to receive a gun safety refresher, learn about conservation, receive instruction in bird biology, practice shooting clay pigeons, and hunt quail with qualified coaches.
This quail hunting camp is open to a child and one parent/adult. It will be on the Armendaris Ranch in southern New Mexico near Truth or Consequences. The camp is free, and all meals will be provided. Instructions on what to bring will be provided after registration. This camp will take place on Friday, Nov. 22, through Sunday, Nov. 24. Registration is currently open. Click here to register for this special opportunity to create a lasting memory with an parent/adult.

Start Thinking About the 2025-2026 Hunting Season
Now is the perfect time to start planning to take hunter education. Hunter education is good for everyone, but required if you are under 18. There are plenty of in-person hunter education courses coming up in New Mexico.

- Nov. 18 – Bloomfield
- Nov. 16-17 – Las Cruces
- Dec. 7-8 – Farmington
