Portales, NM – April 17, 2025 – The Eastern New Mexico University system announced today that it received $22.6 million in capital outlay funding from the New Mexico State Legislature for the 25-26 fiscal year. ENMU-Portales received $11.483 million, ENMU-Roswell received $7.39 million, and ENMU-Ruidoso received $3.68 million.
"This total represents a continued investment by the state in the important work of ENMU," said James Johnston, ENMU Chancellor. "I appreciate the efforts of all involved in this process, system-wide, our area legislators, the Legislature as a whole, and the Governor for their continued support of higher education and the work of the ENMU System."
The $22.6 million in capital outlay funding includes the $10.3 million that was approved by voters with the 2024 G.O. Bond passing.
ENMU-Portales, outside of the $2 million that it was awarded as part of the 2024 G.O. Bond, also received an additional $9.5 million that will be put towards the following projects:
$6.5 million to help complete the new Student Academic Services building, scheduled to open in the spring of 2026
$2.5 million for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning repairs to the Science Building
$408,000 for agriculture equipment in the new Animal Production facility
$75,000 for new lighting in the ENMU Theatre
The $22.6 million in capital outlay funding comes as the ENMU system continues its commitment to an affordable education for New Mexico students. ENMU-Portales announced back in December of 2024 that the Portales campus would not raise tuition and fees for the fourth straight year. The ENMU-Ruidoso and ENMU-Roswell campuses have also committed for the fourth consecutive year not to have a tuition increase.
Another zero-percent tuition and fee structure was made possible with continued substantial state support, strong enrollment, and improved retention of students.
