New Mexico State University's Department of Facilities and Services project development and engineering in collaboration with NMSU Police are working to identify and enhance lighting across campus to deter criminal activity and make it easier for students, faculty and visitors to navigate the university buildings and grounds.

Starting Friday, April 18, don't be surprised to see assessment personnel walking around the NMSU campus at night. Over the next few months, one to two people wearing high-visibility vests will be taking measurements of hundreds of exterior lighting fixtures to better understand lighting needs in various areas outside NMSU's buildings and grounds.

Once the first phase of the assessment ends in July, the Department of Facilities and Services project development and engineering will initiate the first phase of lighting upgrades recommended by the assessment.

The assessments of lighting functions will continue to cover additional areas until the entire NMSU campus has been assessed and lighting upgrades and improvements scheduled.
