Carolyn Salas, named a 2021 Artist-in-Residence at Google and most recently was commissioned by the United States Tennis Association and the Armory Show to create a new outdoor sculpture for the US Open. https://carolynsalas.com/home.html

6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26

New Mexico State University, Devasthali Hall in the bleachers, 1308 E. University. The presentation will be both in-person and over zoom at https://nmsu.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_qAxkevkARhidjrth3M4VSA .

Salas uses the walls of the gallery as sculptures, carving human size shapes into them, transforming viewers' conception of space, place, and their relationship to objects and form. Her multidimensional chromatic sculptures oscillate between geometric abstraction and figuration. Inspired by research on healing therapies and dream analysis, Salas composes forms from a fresh lexicon of symbols and materials, referencing ritual, female strength and resilience, mental health, and art history.

Opening receptions for "Carolyn Salas: Night Vision," "Carlos Rosales-Silva: Border Destroyer," and "Warhol & Friends" will be from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the University Art Museum at NMSU, 1308 E University Ave. Learn more about each exhibition at https://uam.nmsu.edu/upcoming-exhibitions-events/index.htm
