House Democrats mourn their beloved colleague, a Bronze-Star Veteran,
who served his community in the Roundhouse for 16 years
Santa Fe, N.M. - Former New Mexico State Representative Eliseo "Lee" Alcon died Monday, January 13, 2025, surrounded by his family. Rep. Alcon, who had been diagnosed with liver cancer, resigned late last year after being placed on hospice care.
Rep. Alcon, a military veteran who received a Bronze Star for his service as a combat medic in the Army during the Vietnam War, was elected to the House in 2009. During his tenure, he advocated for policies to support New Mexico's veterans and their families, safeguard tribal sovereignty, strengthen the state's infrastructure and economy, and protect the environment. Rep. Alcon also served as Chair of the Consumer and Public Affairs Committee and the Labor, Veterans and Military Affairs committee.
Following the news of his passing, House Democrats issued the following statement:
"We are tremendously saddened by the loss of our esteemed colleague and dear friend Eliseo. During his 16 years in the House, Rep. Alcon was a tireless champion for his western New Mexico community and our service men and women. We deeply appreciated the warmth, kindness, good humor, and dedication he brought to the Roundhouse.
Rep. Alcon's legacy will live on through the historic victories he achieved for veterans and their families, New Mexico workers, and our environment. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, especially his beloved wife Darlene and their children, grandchildren, and great grandson."
