This is your notification that BLM has published a record of decision for the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument Resources Management Plan. The subject document is available on the eplanning website: https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/92170/510
The Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument (Monument) Proposed Resource Management Plan (RMP) and Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) describes and analyzes a range of alternatives for managing public lands within the Monument planning area.
The Monument P-RMP/F-EIS evaluated four "action" alternatives, developed in response to land use management issues and concerns identified during the BLM's initial analysis of the current management situation, internal and external scoping, a 90-day public involvement period and BLM interdisciplinary team (IDT) input, as well as a "No Action" alternative, which reflects current land use allocations and resource management goals and objectives for Monument lands.
The four action alternatives address changed conditions, resolve current land use management issues, and proposes to implement appropriate Protection, Preservation, and Conservation management principles for natural and cultural resources, resource values, and wildlife habitat to ensure protection of objects of scientific and historic interest on Monument lands.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) solicited and incorporated cooperating agency, public, Tribal, and Federal, state, and local agency input to develop a durable land use plan that incorporates preservation, conservation, and adaptive management principles designed to protect Monument objects and values, preserve Wilderness character, and institute long-term conservation of BLM-managed public lands and resources, as was directed by President Obama in Presidential Proclamation 9131 and the U.S. Congress in the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act of 2019, as well as other appropriate laws, regulations, and agency policy.
The BLM New Mexico State Director has signed the ROD January 8, 2025, finalizing the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument land use plan.
