MorlesBrantleySANTA FE—Senator Crystal Brantley (R-Elephant Butte) and Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales issued statements today following the passing of longtime educator, coach, and community leader Noel Nunez, 53, of Deming. In addition to the City Of Deming ordering all city flags to fly at half staff November 7-8, a New Mexico state flag was flown in his honor at the State Capitol and will be presented to his family on behalf of the State of New Mexico.

Senator Brantley stated:

"Noel Nunez was the kind of New Mexican every classroom and every community wishes they had. His devotion to his students, his absolute belief in the potential of our kids, and the joy he brought to Deming were unmatched. New Mexico is better because Noel lived here, taught here, and served here. My heart is with his entire family as they navigate this difficult loss."

Lt. Governor Morales added:

"Noel's impact on the young people of Luna County cannot be overstated. As a teacher, coach, mentor, and friend to so many, he dedicated his life to helping students find purpose and direction. He represented the very best of our state's values: service, humility, and love for community. It is an honor for the State of New Mexico to fly a flag in his memory and present it to his family. His legacy will continue to inspire educators across New Mexico for years to come."
