Newborn baby boy surrendered at Hobbs Fire Station One

HOBBS – Today, it was announced that another newborn baby was surrendered in the "Baby Box" at Fire Station One in Hobbs last week. Local authorities immediately responded to the safety alarm and the infant was transported to Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital for medical examination. The infant is reportedly healthy and now in the custody of the Children, Youth and Families Department.

Senator David Gallegos (R-Eunice), who championed the efforts to secure funding for "Baby Boxes" in every New Mexico county, released the following statement celebrating the save:

"Today, we celebrate another mother who chose life for her newborn baby boy. Last year, the Hobbs community experienced the gut-wrenching tragedies of two abandoned and deceased infants, highlighting the need for this life-saving technology. I applaud the City of Hobbs for being one of the first communities to install a ‘Baby Box.' Another baby is alive and well because of your efforts."Â
