Heinrich's opponent has been criticized for refusing to answer tough questions from press
ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Senator Martin Heinrich has accepted two separate invitations to participate in debates against his multimillionaire former hedge fund executive opponent, Nella Domenici. Heinrich has agreed to two proposed debates—one sponsored by the Congregation Albert Brotherhood and the other jointly sponsored between KOAT, the Albuquerque Journal and NewsRadio KKOB—both scheduled to take place in October.
"I believe that open and honest debates are crucial for our democracy. With our fundamental rights and freedoms on the line this election, the people of New Mexico deserve to hear where each candidate stands," said Sen. Martin Heinrich. "As someone who grew up in a working-class, union household, I understand the challenges facing New Mexicans and have dedicated my career to addressing them. From expanding healthcare for veterans and reducing prescription drug costs, to protecting our treasured public lands and fiercely defending women's rights to reproductive health care, I've always fought for the best interests of New Mexico."
"These debates will highlight the clear choice voters have this fall," Heinrich continued. "While I have a record of delivering real results—like capping insulin prices for Medicare enrollees, securing unprecedented investments in early childhood education, and cracking down on the fentanyl supply chain—my opponent has spent her career making millions of dollars for companies that sold out working families. She left New Mexico 50 years ago and only returned to further the extreme agenda of Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell. New Mexicans deserve a senator who is committed to raising wages, lowering costs, and creating good-paying jobs here at home, not someone out of touch with our values and needs."
Heinrich's opponent, Nella Domenici, has yet to agree to the proposed debates. Domenici has been frequently criticized for refusing to answer tough questions and avoiding interviews with the press, as recently as today.
