PORTALES—Today, Senator Pat Woods (R-Broadview) will meet with Texas Commissioner of Agriculture Sid Miller who is hosting a meeting regarding the "Muleshoe Land Grab." This recent land acquisition plan is part of President Joe Biden's 30X30 plan enacted in 2021. Under the plan, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is setting in motion a Land Protection Plan (LPP) that would mark up to 700,000 acres in west Texas and eastern New Mexico for permanent conservation. The affected New Mexico counties are Lea, Chaves, Roosevelt, DeBaca, and Curry.
Senator Pat Woods issued the following statement ahead of the meeting:
"This egregious infringement on private land ownership cannot go unchallenged. I am thankful we have allies in both New Mexico and Texas, including Commissioner Miller, who are fighting to ensure landowners do not lose their ability to make a living because of government overreach. This move, particularly in the wake of the recent transmission line project land grab, is especially concerning. I hope together we can find a resolution to keep the federal government from continuing to take away what is rightfully ours."
