Senator Steven Neville Awarded Legislative Award for Excellence from NM Association of Counties
SANTA FE – Last week, the New Mexico Association of Counties awardedSenator Steven Neville(R-Farmington) the Legislative Award of Excellence for his work to aid New Mexico's counties. During the 2024 Legislative Session, Senator Neville co-sponsored Senate Joint Resolution 16 which created a constitutional amendment to remove the legislature's obligation to fix salaries for all county officers.
Senator Neville issued the following statement regarding the receipt of the award:
"I am deeply humbled and grateful to have been awarded this recognition. As a former county commissioner, I saw many issues with state law that plagued and handcuffed the commissioners. Our county and local officials are often those best suited to address issues since they are those closest to the people. I'm proud of the work I have done throughout my legislative career to put more power back in the hands of local governments and empower the people of my community."
