SANTA FE, NM – New Mexico State Parks is proud to announce the addition of three new officers to its dedicated team of park rangers, further strengthening efforts to preserve and protect the state's unparalleled natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage.

Officers Abran Briseno and Josh Garcia received their certification from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy (NMLEA) during a graduation ceremony in Santa Fe on Nov. 6. On Nov. 13, Officer Steven Rosser, a previously certified officer, joined officers Briseno and Garcia as they were commissioned at the State Parks Division headquarters in Santa Fe.

The new rangers will play a critical role in safeguarding New Mexico's iconic parks, monuments, and recreational areas. Their responsibilities include ensuring the safety of park visitors, protecting wildlife, preserving historic and cultural sites, and supporting education and outreach efforts to raise awareness about the state's unique natural resources.

"New Mexico's parks are among the most beautiful and diverse in the nation," said Toby Velasquez, Director of New Mexico State Parks. "Our new rangers bring a wealth of experience, passion, and commitment to preserving these precious resources for future generations. We're excited to welcome them to the team as we continue our important work of conservation and public service."

Officer Abran Briseno was named valedictorian of his academy class. He recorded the class's highest academic score and earned the Top Driver Award, which recognizes his outstanding performance in the Emergency Vehicle Operations portion of the training.

The new hires join during a time of increased demand for ranger positions, with several opportunities currently available across the New Mexico State Parks system. These roles offer a chance to make a lasting impact on the state's outdoor heritage. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply by visiting the New Mexico State Parks website.

"Joining the team as a park ranger allows individuals to actively contribute to the protection of New Mexico's natural resources while ensuring public safety" added Gabriel Maes, law enforcement and boating safety bureau chief, New Mexico State Parks. "We invite those who are passionate about the outdoors and conservation to apply for one of the available positions and become part of this important mission."
