SANTA FE, NM The New Mexico State Parks Division announces thatdue to the flooding that has damaged the City of Las Vegas water system, water will be turned off atStorrie Lake State Park until further notice.¯

¯ On Friday, June 21, heavy rain produced flooding that brought ash and debris in unprecedented amounts into the reservoir from the Calf Canyon and Hermits Peak burn scars, delaying the processing of water by the water treatment plant. Currently, water restrictions remain in effect for the City of Las Vegas to conserve the limited water supply available. ¯

¯ "This is a public health emergency. By turning the water system off at Storrie Lake, we can take some of the burden off the compromised water system for the City of Las Vegas," said Toby Velasquez, Director. "The wildfires impacted all of us and we can expect that this could likely happen again during monsoon season. We are all neighbors and it's our responsibility to do our part to support the community in any way we can."¯

¯ The water shutdown began earlier this week and will remain in effect at Storrie Lake until further notice. Dry camping is available, but all comfort stations are closed and there will be no water for campsites or the dump station.¯¯
