SANTA FE — thyssenkrupp Materials NA, a trusted partner in materials distribution and manufacturing solutions, is expanding its operations with a new facility in Santa Teresa, N.M.
This strategic investment strengthens its ability to serve power distribution customers across North America and Mexico while optimizing the supply chain network. This expansion is supported by the New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD), which is providing economic incentives to help fuel job growth and workforce development in the region.
Copper and Brass Sales, a division of thyssenkrupp Materials North America, is leasing an 86,000-square-foot facility for the metals manufacturing services used in power distribution components. The Santa Teresa facility will focus on manufacturing solutions tailored to customer-specific needs, including complex cutting, kitting, and just-in-time (JIT) services. This expansion underscores the commitment of Copper and Brass Sales to provide customized, high-value solutions that improve production processes and reduce lead times.
The state pledged $500,000 from the EDD's Local Economic Development Act (LEDA) job-creation fund to assist the company in its expansion, which will create approximately 90 jobs in New Mexico.
In February, EDD also awarded thyssenkrupp $253,630 in workforce development funds through the Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP) to train the first 21 employees with an average hourly wage of $24.52.
"Expanding into New Mexico is a strategic move that strengthens our ability to serve power distribution customers across North America and Mexico with greater efficiency and responsiveness," said James Patsakos, president of Manufacturing Services at thyssenkrupp Materials NA. "Santa Teresa offers the ideal location, infrastructure, and workforce to support our long-term growth while enhancing supply chain resilience for our customers. The support from the State of New Mexico through LEDA and JTIP demonstrates a shared commitment to economic development, and we look forward to building a strong presence in the region as we grow our team and operations."
Copper and Brass Sales has five manufacturing centers in North America: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Atlanta, and Saltillo, Mexico. The company selected Santa Teresa due to its proximity to suppliers and power-distribution customers in the U.S. Southwest and Mexico.
"New Mexico's border region is the best location for manufacturers looking to leverage a strong workforce, competitive costs, and logistical advantages while servicing both international and U.S.-based customers," EDD Cabinet Secretary Rob Black said.
"On behalf of Doña Ana County, I am thrilled to welcome thyssenkrupp to our community," said Scott Andrews, Doña Ana County manager. "Their investment in Santa Teresa will not only bring new opportunities for career advancement but also further strengthen our region's manufacturing prowess and our local economy. We look forward to a successful partnership and are excited to see the positive impact they will have on our residents."
The Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance (MVEDA) assisted thyssenkrupp with site selection and strategic planning for its New Mexico expansion.
"The New Mexico Borderplex region offered thyssenkrupp strategic locational advantages due to its proximity to key supply chain partners such as Schneider Electric and EATON, amongst others," commented Davin Lopez, president & CEO of MVEDA. "This is another indication that Santa Teresa has emerged and is being recognized as a major hub in the U.S. for manufacturing, supply chain access, and cross-border trade.
